My Harrow Youth Stop Work Experience Placement

Hello! I’m Aaroh, a Year 10 student in Park High School who recently moved to London from India. As I embark on my third month in this vibrant city, I had the fantastic opportunity to spend a week at Harrow Youth Stop for my work experience. This center plays a crucial role in supporting young people, offering a safe space for personal development, social activities, and guidance. During my time there, I engaged in various tasks, from reception work to creative projects, all while learning about the importance of community involvement.
Day 1: Monday – A Warm Welcome
My first day was all about getting settled in. The staff welcomed me with open arms, making me feel right at home. I learned about the center’s mission and how it aims to empower young people through various programs. I spent the day at the reception, where I was introduced to the daily operations, including answering phone calls and greeting visitors. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but the supportive atmosphere helped me ease into my role.
Day 2: Tuesday – Recycling Waste Project
On Tuesday, I dove into a project focused on recycling waste. I was tasked with creating posters to promote recycling. This project was not only fun but also educational. I researched different recycling practices and their environmental benefits. Additionally, I wrote a report for the Harrow Youth Stop website, highlighting the importance of sustainability. Seeing my designs come together gave me a sense of accomplishment, and I felt proud to contribute to a cause I care about.
Day 3: Wednesday – Making Spaces More Appealing
Wednesday was a bit different as I explored the various rooms in the center. My goal was to come up with ideas on how to make these spaces more appealing for young people. I researched what makes a space inviting, considering both aesthetics and functionality. I also looked into the costs associated with potential improvements. It was exciting to think creatively and suggest changes that could enhance the experience for visitors
Overall, my week at Harrow Youth Stop was an incredible experience. I gained valuable skills, made meaningful connections, and learned about the importance of community support. As I continue my journey in London, I am excited to apply what I’ve learned and contribute positively to my new environment.
