Volunteering Opportunity with the Curry Circle within Bradford West

Ref:
Age: 15-19
Company: Charity called the Curry Circle
Location: Bradford West
Hours: TBC
Pay: N/A
Duties:

We are a small charity (registered charity number 1158560) that runs a weekly food initiative called the Curry Circle, attended by an average of 100 service users.  The service is an initiative that provides a hot two-course meal for people who are homeless or struggling to feed themselves.  Since its launch in December 2013 the Curry Circle has provided over 25,000 meals to some of Bradford’s most vulnerable people.

This year we have started a new project in which we aim to recruit 200 young people aged 16-18, in cohorts of 10, from across Bradford West (Manningham, Girlington, White Abbey, Four Lane Ends) to be involved in local social action through our Curry Circle initiative. Participants will be required to attend introduction workshops regarding food poverty, volunteer training (this will cover the do’s and don’ts), and a session where they get an insight into how we develop and deliver the Curry Circle.

After the workshops and training, each cohort will be allocated a Curry Circle date to work towards designing and delivering responses to food poverty, isolation, loneliness and  homelessness with the support of the Muslim Women’s Council team.

This project will encourage learning through doing and discovering personal responses to social issues. Participants will also see an increase in confidence, an expansion in their social circles and an enhancement in both their life skills and future employability.
