Royal Navy and Royal Marines

Duties: There are many roles in the RN/RM including careers in engineering, medical services, logistics and seamanship branches. You may be required to serve anywhere in the world on ships or in submarines. You may also apply to be part of the Fleet Air Arm - the Royal Navy's own air force 
Qualifications & Training: Will vary depending on the role and trade. Royal Navy ratings initial training is 10 weeks, Royal Marines initial training is 32 weeks 
Requirements: 

Many branches, trades in the Naval Service do not require any formal educational qualifications to apply. Officer candidates need 5 GCSEs grade C or above including English and Maths and 180 UCAS points.

Naval service Entry Criteria:
Weight - must have a BMI in a healthy range
Nationality - Must be a British, Commonwealth, British Protected Citizen or an Irish National or hold Dual nationality with one of the fore-mentioned. You must normally have resided in the UK or Ireland for a period of 5 years immediately prior to making an application
Gender - Most roles are open to both sexes. Those which aren't include the Royal Marines
Health - Some health issues exclude people from the RN and RM. See Info in Connexions
Criminal Record including driving offences should be highlighted at the earliest possible opportunity in the application process. Criminal convictions may be a bar to entry
Tattoos - that are offensive, obscene or excessive in size or number will be a bar to entry. Tattoos that are visible on the head, neck and hand when in parade uniform are a bar to entry
Piercings -You will be required to remove certain types of body piercing before carrying out physical activities as part of the application and selection process. Flesh tunnels are a bar to entry
Drugs - drug taking is strictly prohibited 

 

Additional Information: All applicants for the Naval Service will have to pass a recruiting test, interview, medical and fitness test. In addition it is Government policy that a security check is also conducted
